SafeBAE is a survivor-founded, youth-led organization dedicated to ending sexual violence before it starts. Our programs are free for students and designed to create lasting culture change in schools, backed by a growing body of evidence showing real impact.
By college, many young people have already heard about choking during sex or encountered it. In a 2022 national US survey, 11.9 percent of sexually experienced girls ages 14 to 17 said a partner had choked them. Choking is strangulation. It can cut off blood to the brain within seconds, and there is no safe way to do it. SafeBAE made chokinghazard.org so students, parents and educators can get the facts in one place.
If you strangled someone without their consent, pressured them, or went further than they agreed to, Vibe Check can help you reflect on what happened and what taking responsibility could look like. It’s a private reflection and accountability tool from SafeBAE.
